Recently, the United States has released the latest safety standards for portable luminaires: UL 153:2014 Ed.13+R:3Apr2024. This new standard outlines the safety requirements for portable luminaires with a voltage not exceeding 120 V. As a 2024 revision, it updates the previous version, UL 153:2014 Ed.13+R:20Jan2023.
Major technical changes in the new standard include:
1. Allowing low-voltage input and related requirements for shipping without drivers;
2. Removing the limit on the number of sockets; improving labeling requirements for luminaires exclusively using LED bulbs;
3. Clarifying requirements for wires and sockets of handheld lamps and work lights;
4. Adding requirements for battery-powered luminaires.
Simultaneously, the United States has also released the latest safety standards for fixed luminaires: UL 1598:2021 Ed.5 +R:31Jan2024. This new standard specifies the safety requirements for fixed luminaires with a voltage not exceeding 600 V. As a 2024 revision, it updates the previous version, UL 1598:2021 Ed.5 +R:18Jun2021.
Major technical changes in the new standard include:
1. Adding definitions and safety requirements related to "indoor wet location";
2. Modifying warning label requirements for "polymeric recessed housing";
3. Improving requirements regarding whether secondary circuits are allowed to be grounded.
