To Welcome the Asian Winter Games, Lighting Upgrades for Street Lamps on 12 Streets

December 7, 2024

In preparation for the Asian Winter Games, and to create a warm, festive atmosphere and a clean, orderly environment, Daoli District has upgraded the lighting on 12 streets as part of its urban atmosphere and environment improvement efforts.

As dusk falls, the "Crown of the City," a landmark lighting display in the green space of the Songhua River Highway Bridge on Youyi West Road, shines brightly with a splash of colors, making the entire city seem to glow under its radiance. Built in 2009, the "Crown of the City" has suffered damage from wind and sun exposure over the years, including broken lamps, rusted surfaces, and structural issues, all of which have harmed the city's image. This year, the Daoli District Urban Management Bureau has included the restoration and upgrade of this landmark on its agenda.

According to relevant officials from the Daoli District Urban Management Bureau, this lighting upgrade project covers 12 major streets, including Youyi Road, Chengxiang Road, Tieshun Street, Tiandi Street, Zhaolin Street, Xinyang Road, Jingwei Street, and Airport Road. It also involves nine key node areas such as Sophia, Harbin Railway Station North, the Airport Roundabout, Youyi Road intersections, and Xinyang landmarks, with six node landscapes undergoing maintenance and upgrades, and 33 building lightings being involved.

The lighting design is centered around the themes of "Admiring the Scenery of Daoli," "Experiencing Ice and Snow Culture," and "Enjoying the Charming City," aiming to showcase the charm and demeanor of Harbin in connection with the 2025 Asian Winter Games. Based on the lighting design principles of points, lines, and planes, it plans important nodes for urban landscape lighting, night view tourist routes, and landscape areas, forming a framework and overall layout with functional lighting as the primary and landscape lighting as the auxiliary. The project aims to enhance the main buildings, entrance and exit landscape areas, and key nodes within the districts of Daoli.

Building lighting focuses on the tops of buildings, using warm light to accentuate the European-style architecture, forming an illuminated skyline.

The entrance and exit landscape areas prioritize lighting the central roundabouts, connecting points into lines and lines into planes to create illuminated landscape areas. The "Lighted Lilacs" and "Dynamic Five-Colored Flowers" welcome visitors, showcasing the nightscape of ice and snow culture.

The main node landscapes within the districts are primarily focused on renovation, repair, and upgrade, with comprehensive renovations of their appearances and structures, as well as upgrades to their control systems. These upgrades bring a fresh and charming look to the "Crown of Ice and Snow."
